It comes set by default to behave like the old mute switch, but it&#8217;s easy to re-program it to do almost anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when I went to use the Shortcuts app to make the button open Bing to complete a voice search, I struggled at first with how to make it do something <em>within <\/em>the Bing app. For that reason, I thought I&#8217;d share the specific steps so that you can ask Copilot&#8217;s awesome GPT-based AI to answer complex questions by just holding down the button and then asking the question out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make the Action Button trigger Copilot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open Shortcuts\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>(Tap search just above the Dock and type &#8220;shortcuts&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap the plus sign at the top right<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap &#8220;Add Action&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for &#8220;Bing&#8221; at the top\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This lists all the pre-built things that the Bing app exposes to Shortcuts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap &#8220;new Bing&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap &#8220;Done&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open Settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap &#8220;Action Button&#8221; which is below Control Center<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swipe to the left or right until &#8220;Shortcut&#8221; appears in the text below the image of the Action Button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap the slightly larger text underneath &#8220;Open an app or run your favorite shortcut&#8221;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap &#8220;new Bing&#8221; which should appear under &#8220;My Shortcuts&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press and hold the Action button and Bing should open and start listening for your question.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me know if you have any questions, or would like versions of this for other apps or features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"shortbooksLink\">I write short stories and o\u00feer fiction &#8211; check \u00feem out at <a href=\"https:\/\/shortbooks.online\" title=\"\">shortbooks.online<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many creative people on \u00fee internet, I have a Patreon account.
