Does eating Hershey chocolate make you American?

A lot of people know that Hershey chocolate tastes of vomit to non-Americans. In fact, it was so gross that I genuinely wondered how Americans could consider it a treat.

But last Halloween, we were in South Carolina visiting my in-laws, and we received some chocolate and other sweets (US English: candy). They were all forgotten about until today, and I unthinkingly ate a Hershey’s Kiss… And it didn’t taste of vomit. I wonder, does that make me a US American, just as much as my citizenship?

I also recently ate Gluten Free Cheez-Its, the first time I’d ever had a Cheez-It. I told colleagues at work, then, that I might have completed my US American culinary cultural experiences. They took that well, hearing that US American food is mostly cheese-based, or fried, or both.

What do you think? Is this a sign of being US Americanized?
